Please stop spreading lies

This post is not about the George Zimmerman case. This post is about a disease epidemic. I call it a disease for the sake of my own sanity. I have to tell myself that some sort of mental affliction has spread throughout our country and claimed millions of helpless victims. I tell myself that because the only other option is that we are simply a nation of fools and liars. So which is it? Diseased, foolish or dishonest? Maybe a combination of the three?

This post is not about the George Zimmerman case. This post is about a tragic and explainable phenomenon. We live in the “Information Age.” Virtually every human being in the western world carries the internet around in their pocket. From there, they can research any topic and explore any idea. They can answer any question and deepen their understanding of any issue. Yet, we are somehow more ignorant and less interested in the truth than probably any civilization in history. People — millions and millions of people — walk around repeating falsehoods and absurdities. Falsehoods and absurdities that can be exposed as falsehoods and absurdities through 17 seconds of research. Type it in to Google. Hit ‘enter.’ Read. Simple. Easy. What’s the problem?

This post is not about the George Zimmerman case. This post is about throngs of angry adults who have spent a year and a half utterly distracted by a particular news story, yet, apparently, never actually spent even 3 minutes informing themselves about the story. A year and a half of protests, riots, outbursts, outrage, obsession, and still so many people know so little about the case that sparked their ire. How is that? How could this have been maybe the most famous murder trial in modern American history, and still be such a jumbled blur in the minds of so many? In the past couple of days I have been attacked viciously by hundreds of anonymous folks on the internet who loath my very existence because I disagree with their opinion about the Zimmerman trial. Almost every single one of these folks have cited entirely untrue and plainly bogus details in their arguments against me. They repeat utter fabrications — fabrications that can be dispelled with literally 2 to 3 minutes of investigation. How is that possible? How could they be so passionate about a topic they apparently know next to nothing about? What is going on?

Have whatever opinion you want to have, but please base it on some semblance of reality. And that means you need to stop saying this:

“Zimmerman got out of the car and disobeyed the orders of the police!” No. No he didn’t. He wasn’t talking to police. He was talking to a 911 operator. The suggestions of a 911 operator do not carry the force of law. You don’t have to “obey” them.

Also, stop saying this: “Zimmerman got out of the car even though the [911 operator] told him not to!” No. No he didn’t. The person on the other line never told him not to get out of the car. Never happened. It didn’t happen. Stop saying it happened. It didn’t. That’s a fact. You can’t argue it or dispute it. It didn’t happen.

Also, stop saying this: “Zimmerman got out of this car and followed Trayvon even though he was told not to!” No. No he didn’t. He was already out of his car when the operator said “we don’t need you to” follow him. How did Zimmerman respond to that? He said, “No! I refuse! I shall pursue the suspect and there’s nothing you can do about it mwahahahaha!” Just kidding. Actually, he said “OK.” Did you get that? It was suggested that he doesn’t need to follow Martin and Zimmerman said “OK.” Then he didn’t follow. HE DIDN’T FOLLOW after he was told he didn’t “need to.”

Finally, this: “We need to end Stand Your Ground Laws!” Hmmm that’s interesting. While you’re at it, why don’t you tack global warming and herpes onto this story as well. After all, they have as much to do with the Zimmerman case as “Stand Your Ground laws.” Zimmerman claimed self defense — not Stand Your Ground. This much-discussed legal provision had absolutely nothing to do with this incident. This was not a Stand Your Ground case. I repeat: This was not a Stand Your Ground case. This was boring old self defense, the sort of self defense situation that plays out every day in this country. Nothing more, nothing less.

Zimmerman told the operator he wasn’t sure exactly where he was. He didn’t have an exact street address. Most of the conversation revolved around where Zimmerman would meet the police. It was agreed that he would rendezvous with them at his truck. Later, Zimmerman said he was attacked by Martin as he was walking back to his vehicle. This is consistent with the entire exchange he had with the 911 dispatcher. This 911 transcript also shows a guy who desperately wanted the police to arrive. A vigilante, by definition, doesn’t call the cops.

Maybe he was planning on this dastardly murder the whole time and therefore lied to the dispatcher in anticipation of his 911 transcript being publicized in the national press. Maybe, but that seems like a bit of a long shot. Zimmerman claims he got out of his car briefly, primarily to find an exact street address, and was assaulted on the way back to his vehicle, where he planned to meet the police. This account is consistent with everything including the 911 tape.

This post is not about George Zimmerman. This post is about the sickeningly popular practice of shouting a certain lie often enough and loud enough, until it becomes cemented in the public conscience. This post is about what is true. And this is the last time that I will go over the obvious and attainable facts of the Zimmerman case. I can’t bang my head against this brick wall anymore. Either pursue the truth, or live a lie. That’s a decision you’re going to have to make on your own.

Please stop spreading lies. This post is not about the George Zimmerman case. This post is about a disease an epidemic.. http://wp.me/p2TlSN-hB

  2. Grant says:

You nailed it in paragraph three. Some people are angry. They are angry and they need a reason, sometimes any reason, to outwardly exhibit their anger. This case fit that need. Zimmerman lit the fuse. Fortunately, six jurors chose not to feed him to the lions in order to quiet the festering mob of political correctness. They chose to follow the facts…but facts don’t calm the anger of the angry. And for those who are angry, facts don’t matter. What matters is a lifetime of perceived sleights…maybe justified, maybe not…but nothing for which Zimmerman is accountable. At the end of the day, the system worked. Unfortunately, many people would of rather it failed, fed Zimmerman to the lions, and gone on about being angry…but that’s just my two-cents.

  3. susie fermanich says:

He was found not guilty, and I will accept that because that is what the jury of his peers decided. I will also accept that George Zimmerman will be a prisoner of his own mind for the rest of his life, never knowing what is around the next corner in his life. So he might have walked out of court as a free man with a smile on his face, I doubt he will ever smile again about his freedom. In a way…justice was served.

    • Karen says:

What part of ‘freedom’ do you not get. Do you think spending time in jail for a crime you did not commit is freedom? Where is your sense of justice?

    • Virgil Edwards says:

How was justice served? Just because a 17 year old male lost his life, doesn’t mean a crime was committed. How can you possibly look in the mirror at yourself and be content with saying on one hand that you accept the Jury’s decision and then with any level of satisfaction say that Justice was served due to Zimmerman having to look over his shoulder? You display a very sick and inhumane personality by this post and I pray that you never find yourself having to look over your shoulder in fear after having the media destroy your life and reputation over ratings and race baiting.

      • JOELEVIN says:

BEATING ON ANYONE IS A CRIME. TRAYVON COMMITTED AN UNNECESSARY AND STUPID CRIME. HE HAD THE OPTION OF GOING HOME. HE CHOSE A FIGHT. HE GOT SO VIOLENT, THE THE OTHER GUY HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO RETURN THE FIGHT WITH DEADLY FORCE. IF TRAYVON HAD HAD A GUN, DO YOU SUPPOSE THAT HE MIGHT HAVE USED IT ON ZIMMERMAN FIRST, INSTEAD OF A SUCKER PUNCH TO THE NOSE TO GET THE BEAT DOWN GOING. TRAYVON ORCHESTRATED HIS OWN DEATH. HAPPENS EVERY DAY TO IGNORANT YOUNG BLACK MALES IN THE COUNTRY….AND THE MEDIA AND LIBERALS AND HOLLYWOOD AND THE MUSIC INDUSTRY JUST KEEP EGGING THEM ON TO PLAY THE VICTIMIZED TOUGH GUY ROLE, SINCE THEY GAVE UP THE FAMILY BREAD WINNER REAL MAN ROLE YEARS AGO WHEN LBJ PUT THEM INTO ECONOMIC AND WELFARE BONDAGE MAKING IT MORE LUCRATIVE TO HAVE BABIES WITHOUT A FATHER THAN TO BE MARRIED AND HAVE TO PROVIDE FOR THEM LIKE ADULT MEN.

      • Rosalie B. says:

Virgil and Karen very well stated thank you! I don’t know what the OP was thinking in posting that comment to begin with…

  4. Oh my I agree sooooo much! I LOVE to debate any subject if given enough time to research it. I HATE seeing things posted to ‘pass along/share’ when it isn’t true. I DETEST people not taking a few minutes to get their facts straight. Don’t just spout your ‘opinion’ as fact. Get the facts that are right at your fingertips.
Bravo Mr Walsh for once again taking the words I want to say and saying them so coherently 🙂

  5. S.A says:

    Thank you for posting!

  6. Wa Fleet says:

“I tell myself that because the only other option is that we are simply a nation of fools and liars.”
And there you have it neighbor – you have tumbled onto a truism that really hurts!
And still we pay so heavily for the sins of our Southern Grandfathers – those land owners who felt that a slave who could read and write would present a danger to a dieing way of life. As the restrictions were lifted and freedoms were unleashed that gave more life to these shocked and confused ‘FREEMEN’ – most were hustled into the caring arms of their new ‘best friends’ – the Liberals of the day !
Today so precious few have grown because of the strength of exceptional parenting and caring guidance to represent what can be accomplished with hard work and diligence – so few today that stand as proud Conservatives !
“We live in the “Information Age.” Virtually every human being in the western world carries the internet around in their pocket. From there, they can research any topic and explore any idea.”
But that takes effort – researching and exploring – wow that could be exhausting !
How about social networking ? Sounds easy and I don’t have a need to do research and stuff. And besides – I found one that really tells me ‘their truths’ – it’s easy to remember – I quote them a lot – and my friends think I am smart!
Matt – I think your final option is correct – “fools and liars!”

  7. Oogie Wa Wa says:

Finally. Thank you; I’ll share this but I doubt it’s success, people only hear what they want to.

  8. A 17 year old kid is dead. Hope in the future no more kids are follow and shot to dead, because someone might profile them as a criminal.

    • barry says:

More lies. Nobody was shot because they were profiled as a criminal. He was shot because he attacked someone. He attacked a “creepy cracker” that called 911 and was watching him from a distance (so he could let police know where he was when they got there). If Martin was really worried about the person profiling him, he would have ended the conversation with his friend and called 911 himself. But involving the police would have taken away his chance to teach the creepy cracker a lesson.

      • Jeanabella says:

the boy was profiled of course! Only a racist would say what some of you are saying here. Listen to yourselves, 2nd guessing what the dead boy was thinking. Put yourself in his shoes. Get the guns out of our civilization. If people want to fight, they can do it without a deadly weapon for crying out loud. Stop this hysteria with owning guns. The facts are that most people do not own a gun. Intelligent cultures have realized that guns don’t make things better.

You can’t say that a kid caused his own murder because he got into an altercation with a guy almost 100lbs larger than himself who had been stalking him.

      • barry says:

        Jeanabella,
There is nothing racist in my comment (except pointing out the terms that Martin used to describe Zimmerman). You don’t know me. My views would be the same if the races were reversed. I never said he wasn’t “profiled”. I said he wasn’t shot BECAUSE he was profiled. The shooting happened because of Martin’s reaction to being profiled. Neither of us know exactly what happened out there. But after looking at the evidence, the jury was not convinced that Zimmerman shot Martin just because he fit a profile… there was a lot more to it than you described. I would reply to your nonsense about guns… but seeing that you labeled a stranger as a racist simply for disagreeing with you, there’s really no point to continue this conversation.

      • Timothy Gray says:

Jeamabella, you are proving the point of this article. If you had done even little actual research you would know that it was Martin, not Zimmerman who was the larger of the 2 men. (and ye, even though he was only 17 Martin was a man).

    • @Glen_0 says:

Zimmerman wasn’t following Trayvon when Trayvon attacked him and beat him bloody in a violent rage. Never mind you’re missing the facts of the case, you didn’t even read the article you’re commenting on!
Since overwhelming evidence suggests that Zimmerman is not at all racist, and that historically, Trayvon was indeed inclined to criminal behavior, people of sound minds might conclude that Trayvon aroused Zimmerman’s suspicions based on his actions and not his skin color.
In fact, I would humbly submit to you that if you think Trayvon was “profiled” as a criminal for being black, it may be because you have profiled Zimmerman as a racist for looking too white.

Wait, who am I kidding? You’re not actually going to read this either.

    • JOELEVIN says:

LOOK AT THE PICTURES OF THE YOUNG BLACK MEN IN LA AND AROUND THE NATION IN THE STREETS BURNING, LOOTING, FIGHTING, VANDALIZING, ALL SAYING “I AM TRAYVON”…..ALL THAT MEANS IS THAT THE IMAGE OF TRAYVON AS A POTENTIAL DANGER AND THREAT IS REAL….AND JUSTIFIED BASED UPON THE VERY DEMONSTRATIONS RIGHT NOW BY THE SOCIETY OF YOUNG BLACK ANGRY THUGS MALES.

      • Sarah says:

@jenabella…. “If people want to fight…..” Isn’t that the point? Martin started the fight and then lost…paying a terrible price. If someone approaches me and hits me when i clearly do not want to fight, should I then be crucified in the media for defending myself? Everyday people start fights and are then incensed when they come out the clear loser by way of suffering major injury or death. The aggressor is NEVER the victim.

      • wiscogal says:

Joelevin-Every article & every video footage that I’ve seen have shown extremely PEACEFUL protests around the country. There might have been instances of a small number of arrests-although I can’t come up with any specifically- there definitely were NO instances of “streets burning, looting, fighting, vandalizing” except on the video footage FOX chose to use which was not current & wasn’t even shot in the US.
And as to your description of young black angry thug males-I would have to say that the protests in major metro areas were attended by many white faces too. Were they also angry & thugs?
We will never know the answer to this but would George Zimmerman have even chosen to follow Travon if he had been a young WHITE hoody wearing male?

  9. Jeanabella says:

some of the comments sound like Fox informed viewers commenting here……talk about low information.

    • JOELEVIN says:

you must be part of Rachael’s New School, and not the Old School of responsible adulthood.

  10. Doug says:

I hate that everyone says “this poor 17 year olds”. I’m a 6th grade teacher, and I’ve seen 11 year olds do violent, depraved, and sick things to each other. And Barry, Zimmerman is not a cracker. He is a multi-racial (mostly hispanic) American. If you wanted to label him with a derogatory slang word, you could say he was a beaner.

    • barry says:

In case you weren’t just joking…. I’m pretty sure “creepy cracker” was Martin’s description of Zimmerman (according to his friend that testified for the prosecution).

    • Will says:

Hispanic is not a race! Hispanic is a people who have a historical link to Spain and Portugal! There are white Hispanics which Zimmerman is and Black Hispanics. Zimmerman is not multiracial he is a White Hispanic which further defines his Heritage separating him from an White Anglo Saxon.

      • JOELEVIN says:

maybe you had better go check the official US federal govt Census Bureau forms from 2010 where the RACES and HISPANIC are outlined by the govt charges with COUNTING and ENUMERATION the makeup and location of US people.

      • Jane says:

Wow! Another example of a completely blatant, stupid lie! Zimmerman is not only multi-racial but he has a black great-grandfather! And his “white” side is Jewish, BTW. Hell, you can just look at his face and see how brown it is. Do you even know what the man looks like?

  11. karen503 says:

“A year and a half of protests, riots, outbursts, outrage, obsession…”

Riots? What riots? You mean the ones in Sanford, Florida that juror B36 was convinced happened after Martin was killed, but NEVER HAPPENED?

The rest of your diatribe focuses on conflating 911 with “the police” and the difference between a suggestion (911) and an order (cops). Even folks who DO Google-search might be late to understanding that.

Have you and your other commenters NEVER asked yourself why a guy who lived 4 years in the gated community didn’t know the 3 streets he surely patrolled before as a Neighborhood Watch coordinator? Or the general house numbers on each of those 3 streets?

Then why was it important for Zimmerman to get out of his car? All he had to do was stay in his car within sight of both the mailbox area and the walkway Trayvon was walking down. He could have turned his car to shine his headlights down that walkway.

You all skip over everything Zimmerman did wrong, and focus on what the kid may or may not have done (we don’t know, because a known liar has given us the only story available).

And you may not have noticed, but the expert witnesses for the defense were not certain of their findings. They said their findings were possible, they couldn’t say they were probable.

Unfortunately the prosecution was incompetent in several areas — failing to object when the defense blatantly lied (like size and build of the killer and victim; amount of “bashing”); sharing exhibits; failing to point out direction of head wound blood trails; and the probability of MMA practice abrasions.

I hope the U.S. Justice Dept. takes up this case under the Hate Crimes law, because it’s obvious for George Zimmerman his attitude towards Trayvon wasn’t personal.

    • barry says:

For the record, I think Zimmerman did a lot wrong. There is some possibility that he started the actual fight. If he did, he’s guilty of murder. But if I had to guess on that, I’m going to assume the person that called 911 at the very start wasn’t thinking he’d be fighting someone… and definitely not shooting someone. There’s a good bit of time that passed between Martin realizing Zimmerman was following him and the beginning of the altercation…. and Martin never called 911 (he was using his phone at the time). If he was really scared of Zimmerman, I wish he had called 911. The confrontation would have at least been recorded… or never happened. Unfortunately, there were no solid witnesses to the entire event… and the jury can’t convict if there’s a reasonable doubt.

    • JOELEVIN says:

the hate crime was a black male that attacked a hispanic male because of race and with violence. Unfortunately, Trayvon is too dead to be prosecuted for his crime, which lead to his death.

    • Jane says:

What riots? You mean, like the riot in Los Angeles last night where a news crew was beaten up? As for the “Hate Crimes” law…basically you want the federal government to trounce all over Zimmerman’s rights to not be tried again under double jeopardy. Zimmerman, an Obama supporter. Mentor to black kids. But a “white racist” to you. Good job. You are now officially a fascist and propagandist for the new KGB.

  12. You’re cherry-picking your evidence and drawing your own conclusions. For one thing, are you sure about the authority of a 911 dispatcher in FL? I suspect that each state has it’s own rules about that. In any case, the dispatcher represents law-inforcement and is the first in the chain of response. I’m pretty sure dispatchers are given protocols for different situations. The protocols would most likely come from law-enforcement, medical, and/or fire agencies. The dispatcher would then be relaying the orders of the agency in charge. Just a thought.

Second, I’m guessing that you think he received a just verdict. I haven’t read your previous posts so forgive me if that is an inaccurate assumption. If you watch the video the police took when Zimmerman walked them through the neighborhood and re-enacted the experience, you will notice that he tells at least one bald-faced lie. That lie would be about how he pinned Trayvon’s arm with his (Z) arm against his (Z) side and used the same hand to remove the gun from the holster. Those two things can’t be done while lying on the ground. Impossible. Don’t believe me? Try it.

Third, how on earth could he shoot Trayvon at a 90 degree angle to his (TM) body through the heart when Zimmerman is lying on the ground? Can’t be done. Impossible. Please don’t try it.

Fourth, why did Zimmerman not have Trayvon’s DNA or blood on him? It washed away in the rain, you say? Then why didn’t the blood on the back of Zimmerman’s head wash away?

Fifth, if Zimmerman was sitting on Trayvon’s back holding Trayvon’s arms straight out from his body to restrain him, how did Trayvon’s arms end up under him?

This are all things that certainly make me go, “Hmmm.”

    • Matt says:

“For one thing, are you sure about the authority of a 911 dispatcher in FL? I suspect that each state has it’s own rules about that.”

Wild speculation on your part. 911 operators are not sworn peace officers in any state, and you probably know this, or should.

“If you watch the video the police took when Zimmerman walked them through the neighborhood and re-enacted the experience, you will notice that he tells at least one bald-faced lie….blah blah blah, some other irrelevant observations…”

If any of those things were true or relevant to the case, the prosecution would surely have pointed them out. Remember, DA’s build a career on their conviction rate. I refuse to believe that a prosecutor gets all the way through law school by being that blindly incompetent.

The State of Florida never had a case to begin with. It was an open and shut incident of self-defense. Why can’t you accept that?

    • GreatOne says:

      1) The operator GZ was speaking with was a non-emergency operator. He testified that he has no authority to command a caller to do anything. They are trained only to make suggestions, because if they issue a command they would be held liable for the outcome of the actions (and since they aren’t wherever the caller is, they don’t know the situation).

      2) Don’t recall this, so you might be correct. But keep in mind that at worst GZ was embellishing his story to make it clearer that he felt the need to shoot TM. There is no disputing that at the time GZ fired his gun he was on the bottom and was getting beat up.

      3) The testimony from the defense expert Dr. Vincent DiMaio made it clear how TM could be shot from a 90 degree angle. I strongly encourage you to watch his testimony, readily accessible on YouTube.

      4) It was stated during the trial that blood from GZ’s broken nose would have gone down the back of his throat from gravity – he was on his back while getting beaten. At most, there would have been trace evidence easily washed away by the rain.

      5) Dr. DiMaio testified that TM most likely did not die right away, and pulling his arms into his gunshot wound is a natural reaction. Keep in mind that neighbor Selma Mora saw GZ on top of TM AFTER she heard the gunshot.

Overall, the stories that GZ told law enforcement were consistent with the physical evidence and expert testimony (consistent does not mean perfect). Please do not let your belief/ideology get in the way of the essential facts here: GZ was getting beaten up by TM and was reasonably scared enough for his life/personal safety he felt the need to shoot TM.

  13. 99ts says:

You need to listen to the juror who wants to make a fortune from this case – she said it was all about Zimmerman being allowed to Stand his Ground – so don’t EVER say again this was not about Stand your Ground Laws. Someone should have explained that to the jury.

    • JOELEVIN says:

you did not even listen to the Anderson Cooper,. or maybe you are not smart enough to understand. the juror said the INSTRUCTIONS TO THE JURY talked about the Stand Your Ground laws, along with everything else. George Zimmerman NEVER used that law for his defense….he was merely covered totally under ordinary Self Defense. THE JUDGE EXPLAINED WHAT SHE THOUGHT WAS LEGAL TO EXPLAIN, AND THE PROSECUTION HAD MULTIPLE CHANCES TO ADD ANYTHING TO IT THEY WANTED. THE JURY GOT INSTRUCTIONS, AND THEY WENT OVER THE ENTIRE CASE IN DETAIL FOR 16 HOURS. MOST COMMENTERS HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THOSE 6 PEOPLE DID FOR JUSTICE AND THEIR UNSELFISH WORK. YOU ARE A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR INTELLIGENCE IF YOU WANT TO CLAIM ANYONE WILL MAKE A FORTURN OFF THIS CASE……UNLESS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE $2 MILLION BLACKMAIL SETTLEMENT THE MARTIN FAMILY LAWYERS GOT FOR THE DADDY AND HIS DIVORCED WIFE THE MOMMA, FROM THE HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION OF THE COMMUNITY….THE SAME MOMMA AND POPPA THAT COPYRIGHTED TRAYVON’S NAME SO THEY COULD MAKE MONEY FROM ANY PUBLICITY OR SALES IN THE FUTURE….THAT IS THE MONEY GRUBBING CROWD…..

  14. truthseekeriii says:

What are we going to do for the children that remain with us?

    • JOELEVIN says:

TEACH THEM TO NOT PUT THEIR OWN RACE OR SKIN COLOR UP ON A SOCIAL PEDISTAL, OR PLAY THE POOR VICTIM ROLE TO GET ADVANTAGES OVER THEIR SOCIAL PEERS.

  15. Rachel P says:

I agree 100% with your post, and thank you for writing it. I just read this today, and until today, I had NEVER heard of this in the media. But this says it all…
“You won’t recognize me. My name was Antonio Santiago and I was the 13-month old child who was shot at point blank range by two teens who were attempting to rob my mother, who was also shot. A Grand Jury of my mommy’s peers from Brunswick GA determined the teens who murdered me will not face the death penalty, because they are underage. Too bad I was given a death sentence for being innocent and defenseless, but I was underage too.

My family made the mistake of being half white in a 73% non-white neighborhood, but my murder was not ruled a Hate Crime. (This is only relevant because the make-up of the Sanford FL community, which was misrepresented as being 78% White, was called in to question by the major media outlets. The actual demographics are 50% white, 30% Black in Sanford, not quite what was represented by the media.) Nor did President Obama take so much as a single moment to acknowledge my murder.

I am one of the youngest murder victims in our great Nation’s history, but the media doesn’t care to cover the story of my tragic demise, President Obama has no children who could possibly look like me – so he doesn’t care and the media doesn’t care because my story is not interesting enough to bring them ratings so they can sell commercial time slots.

There is not a white equivalent of Al Sharpton because if there was he would be declared racist, so there is no one rushing to Brunswick GA to demand justice for me. There is no White Panther party to put a bounty on the lives of those who murdered me. I have no voice, I have no representation and unlike those who shot me in the face while I sat innocently in my stroller – I no longer have my life.
(Again, the specifics regarding the esteemed Reverend’s involvement, as well as that of the Black Panthers and our Nation’s leader are what propelled the State of Florida v. George Zimmerman case into the national spotlight.)

So while you are seeking justice for Treyvon, please remember to seek justice for me too. Tell your friends about me, tell you families, get tee shirts with my face on them and make the world pay attention, just like you did for Treyvon.

    Thank you.”
You’re right, Matt. We live in a very diseased society and I feel the exact same way you do about it.

  16. all those demonstraters where no where to be seen when OJ Simpson was found not guilty. Seems to me this is a double standard on the part of african americans. This is a canadian viewpoint, and i am shaking my head in disbelief

  17. Just saying ‘OK’ proves nothing. How many times have our parents told us to do something, and we say ‘OK,’ knowing full well we’re going to ignore what they say.

What was Zimmerman doing out of his car, if not following him? Just creepily prowling around the neighborhood? Sounds suspicious. Maybe a neighborhood watchdog should have called the cops on him too.

    • Jane says:

Yes, damn that Zimmerman for “prowling around” in his OWN neighborhood. Gimme a break!

    • Matt says:

He started to follow Martin, then turned back when asked to do so by the 911 operator. Remember, there had been eight burglaries in the area in just the last six months, all of them committed by people meeting Martin’s description.

You’re assuming that Zimmerman continued following. Where’s your evidence? Even if he did, this doesn’t make him guilty of a crime. It’s not illegal to follow someone around and it doesn’t justify assaulting them with the intent of causing lethal head injury.

  18. Matt, your post was beyond fantastic. I mentioned it on my facebook page and you are my DISTINKT hero of the week! (facebook.com/be-distinkt) To be distinkt means to think independently and not follow the crowd. To not be afraid to stand up for what is right – seems that defines you from what I can tell!

Zimmerman was upset that the police had not responded/or had responded too late, on some other occasions when he called them, so the people in question got away. The 7 times that Zimmerman had called the po po while on neighborhood watch, he never once mentioned a race or color of anyone he found suspicious. They had over 400 calls in a little over one year with regard to problems in that community..that’s more than one call a day. Obviously it was not a safe place. What would most people do when they see anyone lurking around in the rain, after there have been recent burglaries in the same place?

  19. Julia says:

Matt, this reminds me a lot of the Casey Anthony murder trial. She also was tried, convicted and found guilty in the media, while reports about her case drew much attention away from other news stories at the time. Yet the jury acquitted her, much to the anger of those opinionated bystanders who were not rightfully assigned the job of weighing the facts of the case.

  20. John LiPari says:

the answer to your question is mainstream media programming and brainwashing. they are literally able to control people to the point of getting them to feel however they want them to feel.

  21. Lara says:

    Matt,

I appreciate your post. It inspired me to look more thoroughly at the evidence in this case. I think the best piece of evidence is the 911 transcript. Unfortunately, it ends before the altercation that took place. However, I want to know where you drew the conclusion that Zimmerman returned to his car and waited from. I listened to the recording of the 911 call and read the transcript and to me, it appears that he originally planned to meet the police at his vehicle but changed his mind. He told the dispatcher to actually call him and find out where he’s at. This implies that he planned to follow Martin. Now, I understand that it isn’t illegal to follow someone but how do we know that Trayvon didn’t feel threatened and react to stand up for himself? We don’t. Either way, I think this situation got out of hand due to stupid decisions on both sides and both parties are paying with consequences.
I agree with you about how ridiculous society is putting this kid that photographs himself smoking and flipping birds on a pedestal. Our society is getting more and more pathetic. Sad and true.

OMG, I swear I just left this message on my FB page, however not as eloquently written as this young gentleman has indicated. I am tired of hearing about this case however the media, which is making millions out of this tragedy, keep adding fuel to the fire. Stiring the pot until it seems like all of America are rallying behind the Attorney Generals statements and Rev. Al Sharpton. And for what. Because they want the killing of innocent children to stop. #1 While Trayvon was only 17 y/o and well over 6 feet tall, in our society he would be considered a young MAN. If Trayvon had succeeded in obtaining the gun from Zimmerman and killing him, he would most definitely be charged as an ADULT! That’s right people, as an ADULT. So where is the “child” in all of this. Neither Martin or Zimmerman were angels by any means. They BOTH had records and run in’s with the law. Both had been charged with fighting or domestic violence. So to say that Trayvon Martin was a child is such a wrong statement. He lived his life as a young man preparing for adulthood. The facts of the case have already been presented and Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges of murder or manslaughter by a jury of his peers. And if I am not mistaken, most of the women on that panel were African American and Hispanic. I think those people who think they are entitled to riot, loot and destroy public and private property will think of any reason to continue this behavior. In 6 months, 1 year or 5 years everyone will be saying Martin who? Zimmerman, umm the name sounds familiar. Did we go to school with him? They will not even remember the case let alone the facts of the case. Give these two families (who America should really be lifting up to God) the peace they so desperately seek and have expressed that they want. As far as the juror writing the book, OJ made a ton of money on that book. So did the other people who wrote books about that trial and many others. And the only reason we remember the OJ trial is because OJ Simpson is famous. I don’t know of many other people who could tell me who he was accused of killing. I know it was his ex-wife and her friend but I couldn’t tell you their names. If nothing else, please be mindful of both families wishes for peace for that will be the only way they will be able to heal from this tragedy. Thank You.

A point about “Stand Your Ground” laws, Matt. (Although Zimmerman’s acquittal was not due to SYG, but the right of self-defense that all states have.)
There is a current Facebook meme making the rounds with the title “Who is Protected by Stand Your Ground Laws?” showing Marlissa Alexander, Cece McDonald, and George Zimmerman. The page points out that Alexander and McDonald both defended themselves (like Zimmerman, though the exact facts are not the same) and were convicted, while Zimmerman was not. But a key point missing is that Cece McDonald faced charges in Minnesota, which does not have a “Stand Your Ground” law…or else she would not have been prosecuted. The indictment even points out that she did not meet her “Legal Duty to Retreat”. If there had been a SYG law in effect, she would not have been charged in the first place. (I still think she would have won had the case gone to trial, but she elected to take a plea-bargain deal instead.)

  24. For anyone more concerned about the “race” of George Zimmerman than they are the facts of the case … here’s a very interesting article concerning an interview with Gladys Zimmerman, George’s mother. ***Gladys Zimmerman, Mother Of George Zimmerman, Says Her Family Is ‘Proudly Afro-Peruvian,’ But Do His Black Roots Matter In Trayvon Martin Case?*** You can be sure of one thing … had the race baiting Sharpton & Jackson been aware of Zimmerman’s “black roots” … Trayvon Martin would have been nothing more to them than another dead black teenager. That’s a proven fact.

    • Regarding my statement … “You can be sure of one thing … had the race baiting Sharpton & Jackson been aware of Zimmerman’s ‘black roots’ … Trayvon Martin would have been nothing more to them than another dead black teenager. That’s a proven fact.” … I’ll share with you the story of just one incident that is proof of that fact. Jamel Shaw was 17 years old when he was murdered by an illegal alien gang member. Since it is being “black” that gets the attention of Sharpton & Jackson you would think the fact that Jamel was a young black teen would have had them in an uproar.

***Illegal alien gang member sentenced to death for killing Jamiel Shaw***
      http://www.examiner.com/article/illegal-alien-gang-member-sentenced-to-death-for-killing-jamiel-shaw

It was more than 4 1/2 years after Jamel’s murder that illegal alien gang member, Pedro Espinoza was convicted & sentenced to death for the murder. During that long period of time … where was Sharpton, Jackson, and let me go on and ask … where were the comments from Obama? There were none because the murder of Jamel, by an illegal alien gang member, didn’t fit into their agenda … which is promoting division within this country. That is a fact. A proven fact.

“Please stop spreading lies”…wow, Matt, were you looking in the mirror while you were writing this?

During the Trayvon debate, the smartest quote I heard came from an ex-SWAT trainer: “People have lost all sense of what ‘self-defense’ means.” Self-defense used to mean protecting your person if you were jumped without provocation in your home, car, or place of work. Now, it means “deputizing yourself and stalking people in your neighborhood whom you’ve arbitrarily decided don’t belong there.”

George Zimmerman already had an arrest on his record along with a restraining order filed against him when he stalked and murdered Trayvon Martin. Since then, Georgie-boy has been the subject of two 911 calls, along with being charged with felony aggravated assault with a weapon, domestic battery and criminal mischief. What I find most amusing about people who defend this clown is the way they downplay his criminal record…as if it were ‘normal’ for someone to have his criminal record. Folks, I’m no angel, but I’ve managed to live for 43 years without ever ending up in jail as a guest or having a restraining order filed against me (and for anybody who’s ever done it, it’s NOT ‘easy’ or something the cops will just let you do out of spite).

My favorite part of this whole story is how the taxpayers of FL had to pay for this idiot’s ankle monitor because he claimed he was ‘indigent’-and I KNOW how you all feel about taxpayers being forced to pick up the tab for people who refuse to work (wink, wink).

Now, if this moron had a brain in his head, after his acquittal in the Martin case, he would simply have disappeared and never been heard from again…hell, Whitey Bulger went almost 20 years without committing a crime because he knew people were looking for him. I guess we can conclude Whitey Bulger is orders of magnitude smarter than George Zimmerman is.

Unfortunately, George Zimmerman IS going to end up in the media again, but here’s a story you will NEVER hear with his name attached…a story about him giving shit to someone who could actually fight back.

I’ve asked this before, and I’ll ask it again: are FL juries chosen from a pool of the dumbest people available, or does George Zimmerman have a picture of someone with a donkey?
