We All Gotta Serve Somebody

Jamie Foxx apparently said the following while hosting the Soul Train Awards on BET this past Sunday: “First of all, give an honor to God and our lord and savior Barack Obama!”

Now I’m not quite sure how anyone even knows he said this, considering BET during prime time has ratings roughly equivalent to what C-SPAN3 gets at 10 pm on Superbowl Sunday. But I guess it might have something to do with the fact that the network chose to make this cheerful bit of heresy into a promo for the show. At least it’s a little better than the other clip they were going to run which shows DL Hughley sacrificing a goat while chanting Satanic verses. Incidentally, I never realized you actually had to sell your soul to get a ticket on the Soul Train.

I feel like it would be a massive waste of time to explain exactly why it’s inappropriate and incredibly stupid to call President Obama your “Lord and Savior”. I’ll simply say we all only have room in our hearts to worship one Messiah, and only a fool, a damned fool in every sense of the phrase, would bend their knee before a politician.

Of course some people have claimed Foxx was “joking” when he said this. Really? Where’s the punchline?

“Hahaha he just publicly mocked the First Commandment and a crowd of thousands applauded him for it. Hilarious! LOL!”

Look, call me crazy but if you’re going to be on BET in front of a mostly black audience and you want to talk about the president, I’d think instead of equating him to Jesus Christ you might want to do an actual service and talk about how the unemployment rate, the drop out rate, the poverty rate and the every-other-possible-bad-thing rate have all risen dramatically in the black community under Obama. The guy hasn’t “saved” anyone or anything. Hell, with a budget of over three trillion dollars a year he can’t even figure out a way to save 5 or 6 bucks.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible comes to mind when I think about all this: “If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

I really like it a lot more than the modern liberal translation: “If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the man who gave us our free phone”.

So I’m not the only one who thinks the Obama worship is nothing but old-fashioned idolatry, then?
